Bicycles are becoming more popular in Denver and throughout Colorado as a means of inexpensive transportation, a good form of exercise, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends. Car Strikes Bicycle Rider in Fatal Bicycle Accident
A man was struck by a car and killed November 9, 2015, according to the Brighton Police Department. The bicycle accident occurred while the bicyclist was riding in the 600 block of South Kunder Road. He was riding his bicycle southbound when a vehicle struck him from behind knocking him off the bicycle. He fell onto the vehicle before striking the road.
The bicyclist was unconscious at the scene of the accident and later died after being transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene of the accident.
This tragic incident reminds us of how deadly and serious bicycle accidents can be. It also reminds us of the number of bicycle accidents that occur in Colorado and throughout the United States.

In 2013, 743 people were killed in bicycle accidents and another 48,000 were injured. This was the highest number of fatalities from bicycle accidents since 2006. It is estimated that the cost of bicycle injuries and fatalities is more than $4 billion each year. A report in 2012 revealed that bicycle-related accidents were expected to reach an all-time high in Denver.
