Officials say distracted driving is a big part of the problem. But they also say there seems to be a rise in the number of people who hit-and-run because they think they can get away with it, instead of doing the responsible thing. But that’s a whole other story…just make sure your policy contains uninsured motorist coverage.
The other news was the 8-hour logjam on I-70 from the mountains back to Denver on Sunday. Colorado Department of Transportation officials, in an unusually testy meeting, blamed a lot of the problem on drivers who go into the mountains clueless about winter mountain driving. CDOT said lanes were blocked by spun out passenger and commercial vehicles – 22 stranded cars and 11 trucks stuck without chains (which is against the law). Of the 22 cars, CDOT said 19 had bald tires. Why would you go into a snowstorm in the mountains with bald tires, and make life miserable for everyone else?
Think I’ll stay home and get my skiing from the TV.
