Follow the care you’ve been prescribed. If you’re taking medications, receiving physical or occupational therapy or have been given certain things to do on your own at home, such as stretching, be sure to follow your regimen closely. Not only will it document the extent of your injuries, but it will demonstrate that you are taking responsibility for your recovery.
Document evidence of your injuries. Take photos of bruises, cuts and scrapes over time as you work on getting better. Often, photos are the difference between having someone say you only had a few bruises and being able to prove to an insurance company or a jury that you suffered an injury from a seatbelt or airbag or from hitting your head against the window. Cuts and bruises are evidence, and it’s always good to preserve evidence.
Keep a journal of your recovery. The time after a Denver car accident can be confusing and anxiety filled. This will help preserve your memory of details during the first few weeks after your injury – the time when you most want to remember the important facts about your damages case. Keep a notebook handy to jot down how the car accident has affected what we call the Activities of Daily Living. The easiest way to document this is to think about the activities you do inside your home – prepare meals, eat, sleep, bathe and so on. Then think about the things you do outside your home – drive, work, ride your bike. Note how your relations with your spouse, family, friends and others have been impacted. If you can no longer do the things you used to, you need to document it – an important step toward being compensated for your loss.
