Colorado’s workers’ comp system covers most injuries and illnesses that happen on the job. Coverage also isn’t limited to when you’re working at an employer’s office, warehouse or similar facility. If you are off site or driving and are hurt, you may be covered as long as you were doing your job at your employer’s direction and you were on company time.
Something else to be aware of: You don’t necessarily have to be hurt in an accident to be covered. Work comp may cover diseases and conditions that develop as a result of certain work situations, such as exposure to toxic substances, or work situations that can be shown led to chronic conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome.
There are some factors that may result in work comp not covering your injury. If your injuries were caused by your using alcohol or illegal drugs, it likely won’t be covered. Work comp probably won’t cover your injury if it was self-inflicted or if it happened because you violated a company policy. And if you were committing a crime at the time you were injured, you probably won’t be covered by workers’ compensation insurance.
