There are several things you should do right away following a workers’ compensation injury. Following these steps will strengthen your claim.
First, notify your employer right away that you’ve been hurt. Tell your boss, and then follow that up with a written notice. If your company has a form for work injuries, be sure to use that and fill it out completely. It’s a good thing to do this whether you think you’ll need medical treatment or not. Colorado law sets a time limit on when you must notify your employer of a work injury. Not doing so can lead to your claim being denied.
Next, make sure you get medical treatment right away if you are hurt. Go to the emergency room if your injury is serious. Your employer will send you to a doctor who works for the work comp system. If you see your own doctor first, be sure to tell him that your injury is work-related.
Then, call The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya. Workers’ compensation insurers regularly try to deny your claim or restrict your medical treatment. If your employer’s work comp insurer says it won’t pay you or denies your claim, it’s NOT the end of the road. Our Colorado workers’ comp lawyers know how to fight the insurance companies, and we can help you.
