We’re getting our first taste of winter in Colorado, and I want to remind you to take extra care and be safe out on the roads. The next few months are traditionally the time when motor vehicle accidents spike, and the weather is a big culprit. No one can prevent all car accidents, but drivers can take precautions to ensure that they are ready to respond to any situations that might arise. Hopefully, you’ll avoid serious car accidents and injuries.

Most people drive safely, but you can’t be too alert behind the wheel. Even when everyone is paying attention, conditions can cause cars to skid without any warning. To avoid collisions, maintain a safe distance from other cars and pay close attention to nearby vehicles that may be switching lanes. It’s frustrating to deal with the awful traffic of a bad-weather rush hour. But it’s much more frustrating when that rush hour includes a car accident. If the conditions warrant a slower speed, slow down. Safety should come first.

This winter, take some extra time in the morning to clear your windshield, windows, hood and roof of snow and ice. This will do two things: It help you avoid an accident caused by poor visibility, and it will also reduce the chance of causing an accident or damage by snow and ice flying off your car and hitting someone behind you.

Even when drivers take every available precaution, though, car accidents can happen. If you or a loved one or friend are involved in a crash, give me a call at (303) 758-4777 or contact me at DLS@dlslawfirm.com. We’ll sit down and talk about the circumstances and your options.
