Principle Attorney

You’ve heard me say this before: I work as a personal injury attorney because it’s my mission. It’s important to me to help people with resources that they don’t have themselves, and to be someone who’s on their side when they need it.

But that extends beyond just The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya. It’s also important to me to help people in other ways when I can. We were privileged to do just that a couple of weeks ago. That’s when several members of my staff and I went to The Gathering Place in central Denver and prepared a dinner for about 50 women and children.

The Gathering Place is a refuge for women and their children who are experiencing homelessness or poverty. The organization provides a safe daytime refuge, resources for self-sufficiency, some medical services and more.

Offering women and their children hot meals is a big part of what The Gathering Place does, and we wanted to be a part of that effort. So we gathered up a huge cart of food from Costco and in about two hours whipped up buffet-size servings of salad greens, spaghetti and meat sauce, bread and fresh fruit.

The meal was a big hit, although we did bend the rules just a bit. Because The Gathering Place wants to feed as many people as possible, they asked us not to dish up second helpings. But when a cute little six-year-old shyly asked for just a little more spaghetti, what was I going to do?

You can see a photo of us in action on my Facebook page. I was impressed with the resiliency, dignity and humor of the families we met. They’re wonderful people and it was a great experience – and I’m committed to working with The Gathering Place again.
