We Won Big – and It Means More Money for a Lot of My Clients!
Beginning in August, there’s good news for anyone who was hurt in a car crash and had to go to the emergency room – news that could mean more money in the pockets of many of my clients.
On May 29, 2015, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a new law concerning how hospitals are paid. We worked hard to make this new law happen, and it is a big victory for personal injury attorneys – and an even bigger victory for people like you who have been hurt.
Before, if you were involved in a car crash and were treated at the emergency room the hospital was allowed to do an end-around and refuse to send a bill to your health insurance. Instead, they could take their inflated charges right out of your settlement money. Remember those $14 aspirins? Not anymore.
As of August, if you have health insurance the hospital isn’t allowed to take payment for its bills out of your settlement. Instead, they have to bill your health insurance first. Because insurance companies negotiate steep cuts in payment rates, hospitals will have to accept a smaller payment. That means more money can go where it belongs – to you.
This is one of the most important things Colorado lawmakers have done for injured patients in many years. I can give you all the details on how this can help you, if you’d like – just give me a call at (303) 758-4777.
