The Top 6 Anti-Drunk Driving Commercials

May 17, 2016 by Dianne Sawaya Leave a Comment

  1. “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk”
When The Ad Council first launched a campaign about drunk driving in 1983, the goal was to encourage people to stop their friends from getting behind the wheel after having a few too many drinks. According to The Ad Council, nearly seven out of 10 Americans say that they’ve tried to prevent someone from driving drunk since the launch of the campaign. This was one of the first commercials to address the problem of drunk driving in the U.S.
  2. “Sir, Have You Been Drinking Tonight?”
If one anti-DUI commercial sticks out in your mind, it is probably this one. Drunk driving awareness commercials have come a long way since using basic scare tactics to get their message across.
  3. “Stay Out of the Seat”
“Look at you—you’re at the top of your game You’re unstoppable!”Nothing like a little reminder of masculinity to remind you not to drive drunk, right? In all seriousness, this commercial does provide a valuable look at how one drunk driving incident can affect every aspect of your life. Realistically, men aren’t the only ones who get pulled over for drunk driving, and traffic cops don’t care if drivers are at “the top of their game” or at their lowest lows.
  4. “Tough Consequences”
Let’s ignore the fact that maybe you eat ramen noodles for every meal by choice and maybe you moved back in with Mom because it was a financially-prudent decision after breaking up with your girlfriend. The overall message is still clear: a DUI charge can cost you a lot, and this cost goes beyond money.
  5. “Friends Are Waiting”
This commercial was Budweiser’s first crack at a drunk driving PSA for its Super Bowl commercial, and there’s no doubt that it worked.
