Before submitting your application, please read our Scholarship Instructions and Terms and Conditions. You will find the video/essay prompts and other important details that will assist you in submitting the application. Applications that do not adhere to the scholarship instructions will not be considered.
TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP, CREATE A SHORT (30-120 SECOND VIDEO) OR SUBMIT AN ESSAY (MUST BE AT LEAST 1,000 WORDS) TELLING US ABOUT THE FOLLOWING THINGS:
- Explain why you do not support or promote distracted driving (Ex: driving while texting or drinking).
- Explain how you prevent distracted driving and promote safe driving practices for yourself, friends, or family by providing specific examples.
OPTION 1 – If you’re submitting a video application – Upload your video to YouTube. Fill out the application with supporting essay, and include a link to your video on YouTube.
OPTION 2 – If you’re submitting an essay application – Fill out the application and include your full essay (must be at least 1,000 words) in the appropriate submission box.
Click here to read full instructions.- Fill out an application including your name, address, date of birth, educational background (graduation year; high school attended), and student identification number at the Qualifying Institution at which you are enrolled for 2023.
- Upload your video and supporting essay, then provide a link to your video or submit your full essay (must be at least 1,000 words) with your application.
Entries will not be returned.
OPTION 1 – VIDEO APPLICATION:
The video can be serious, funny, inspiring, a public service announcement – whatever you want! Creativity is encouraged. The video must be 30-120 seconds in length. You don’t need to be a professional videographer. Film it with whatever resources you have!

This $1,000 scholarship, offered by The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya, LLC, will be given to one high school senior in Colorado or college student enrolled in college in Colorado.
Supporting Essay. Your essay should expand on the content of your video and must be no more than 500 words.
Additional Requirements for Essay. The essay must be your original work and not previously published. Submissions that, in the sole discretion of GNGF, include any material that is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, disparaging of any racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, or any other minority group, infringing, in violation of any third party rights or any other law, illegible, or late, will be disqualified.
OPTION 2: ESSAY APPLICATION:
Write an essay that is at least 1,000 words in length using one of the two topics:
- Explain why you do not support or promote distracted driving (Ex: driving while texting or drinking).
- Explain how you prevent distracted driving and promote safe driving practices for yourself, friends, or family by providing specific examples.
Submitting Your Essay: Submit this along with your full application on the application page. Your essay must be at least 1,000 words.

Selection and Notification of Winner. All qualified submissions will be judged by GNGF and The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya, LLC without regard to race, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or any other prohibited basis. The applicant whose submission best meets the following criteria will be selected as the Scholarship Winner:
- Creativity
- Originality
- Thoughtfulness/quality of content
